Research Team
Dr. Marette has established wide national and international collaborations in his field. He is a great mentor to all his trainees and graduate students, his dedication and concern for them is resulting in a group of very talented young scientist who are continuing to pursue their interest in diabetes research.

Publications

Dr. Andr� Marette

Andre Marette graduated from Laval University in 1990 with a PhD in Physiology and Endocrinology. After post-doctoral training under the supervision of Dr. Amira Klip and Dr. Mladen Vranic at the Hospital for Sick Children, he joined Laval University where he currently holds a full professor position in the department of Anatomy and Physiology.

Dr. Marette has received constant scholarship and salary awards from MRC/CIHR and Fond de la Recherche en Santé du Québec. He has also received several national and international research grants awards to pursue his research, and has received long-term research and equipment grants from CIHR, CFI and JDRF. In addition, he has received uninterrupted research funding from the Canadian Diabetes Association and MRC/CIHR since 1993. Dr. Marette has also received several industry grants to pursue his diabetes research. In addition to other awards, in 2001 he was honoured with the Davignon & Lupien Founders Award of the Quebec Society of Lipidology, Nutrition and Metabolism. In 2005, he was awarded the prestigious Young Scientist Award of the Canadian Diabetes Association, in recognition for his outstanding contribution to diabetes research in Canada.

Since 1996, he has published over 50 papers in high-impact journals, several invited reviews and and four book chapters. He has also presented several abstracts at international and national meetings. He has four patents. He has organized a number of key symposia in his field of research and has been invited as a speaker to 50 national and international meetings and symposia. He is on the editorial board of a number of scientific journals, also serves as external referee to a number of international and national funding agencies. His expertise is highly sought after, as reflected by his membership on the CIHR Metabolism committee since 1999, where he presently serves as scientific officer. Also, since 1996 he has been an energetic volunteer for the Canadian Diabetes Association and was serving as Chair of the Basic Research Operating Grants Peer Review Panel and member of the National Research Council from 2001-2005.
