Jean Buteau, PhD
Associate Professor of Physiology
Assistant Professor of Medicine
Biographical Sketch
Jean Buteau received his graduate training in Biochemistry at
Universit de Montral under the supervision of Dr Marc Prentki. His PhD thesis
investigated the action of glucagon-like peptide-1 on pancreatic β-cell
proliferation and survival. After graduating with the highest distinction in 2003,
he was awarded a JDRF Fellowship to undertake postdoctoral studies in the laboratory
of Dr Domenico Accili at Columbia University in the City of New York. There, he
investigated the role of the transcription factor FoxO1 in β-cell function.
In 2006, Dr Buteau was appointed Associate Professor at the department of Physiology
at Universit Laval. He then obtained a Junior Investigator Award from the FRSQ as
well as a Scholar Award from the Canadian Diabetes Association. Dr Buteau was
appointed Assistant Professor at the Department of Medicine of Universit Laval in
2008.

Research Interests
Dr Buteau's research efforts are directed towards the identification
of novel molecular mechanisms regulating β-cell mass expansion, with a strong
focus on the signaling pathways and transcription factors mediating glucagon-like
peptide-1 action on β-cell differentiation, proliferation, and survival.
